Sit Down Freeze: A Stop-and-Go Dance Game for ages 3 & up
Every dance class needs moments of movement and moments of stillness — this game teaches both. Sit Down Freeze helps students turn a visual or verbal cue into an instant, still, seated pose, building the stop-and-go skill every dance class relies on.
Students learn a range of seated poses they can use anytime class calls for stillness: waiting to take a turn, listening to directions, or freezing on command. These poses keep the body still and engaged, helping reduce fidgeting and distractions — so when you call "freeze" to regroup, refocus, or manage the room, your students already know exactly what to do.
How it works: Call out a dance action cue, start the music, and let students dance it out in their own style. At random intervals, pause the music, hold up a Sit Down Freeze pose card, and watch your students drop into position instantly. Then cue the music back on and shout "Dance it out!" to keep the energy going.
The open-ended action cues make this game flexible for a wide range of dance styles, levels, and ages — dancers can even layer their own movement on top of each cue. Prefer a simpler version? Skip the action cues entirely and let students freestyle between freezes.
